"Successful Co-Parenting" Classes

Tennessee has one of the highest divorce rates in the U.S. Because divorce is so common, it may seem like adjustment to divorce has become easier for everyone involved. In reality, divorce is hard for all family members, especially children. Because of concerns about the negative impact of divorce on children, the Tennessee State Legislature passed a law requiring divorcing parents of minor children to attend a parent education program.
I teach "Successful Co-Parenting" to help divorcing parents learn how to help their children cope with the issues that arise because of the parents’divorce.
I believe strongly that the child benefits the most when BOTH parents hear and discuss the same information. I encourage, with the signing of a waiver, BOTH parents to attend the same class. If a divorcing couple is uncomfortable attending the same class date, I recommend they choose alternate dates.
The following topics are covered in the program:
1. Facts about divorce
2. Positive communication skills
3. How children react to divorce
4. Helping children get through divorce
5. Keeping children out of the middle of conflicts
6. The processes of divorce and mediation
7. The family after divorce
8. Dealing with stress
9. Domestic violence and divorce
Classes include group discussion and lecture. Each successful participant
will receive a certificate of completion required by Tennessee law, at the
end of each class. Classes are taught at my office, 3225 Gold Dust Dr. Pigeon
Forge, Tennessee on the first and third Monday of each month, from 5pm to
9pm. Please download this form
and complete the registration, mail or bring your fee (post-dated check, OK)
to the address on the form. Because space is limited, registrations and fees
must be received by the Friday before the class you want to attend. No walk-in's
